- SAPPA objectives/emphasis: Assisting interested farmers and especially smallholder farmers to establish pecan nut orchards. This assistance has to be over a period of at least 8 to 10 years. Help farmers with existing orchards to improve their yields and to expand. Getting involved with other industries in joint ventures with pecan nuts as part of a basket of farming activities.,The South African Sugar Association promotes sound and sustainable environmental practices within the industry in line with national legislation and international requirements. This is achieved through: knowledge transfer of sugarcane environmental research, including the development of best management practices (BMPs)/ through SASRI/ support of environmental committees located in the sugarcane producing areas/ and collaboration with organisations such as the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

- SAPPA is a producers organisation that serves the interests of its members by creating an environment in which the role players in the pecan nut industry can obtain sustainable benefits. One of SAPPA's objectives is to supply information to the industry. The pecan nut industry is currently fast growing and this allows for the involvement of developing farmers.,The South African sugar industry is one of the world's leading cost competitive producers. It is a diverse industry combining the agricultural activities of sugarcane cultivation with the manufacture of raw and refined sugar, syrups, specialised sugars and a range of by-products. The South African sugar industry makes an important contribution to the national economy.
